This weekend I had the fortunate opportunity to travel back to Vancouver for Lindy Bout 3 for dance competitions and some rhythm social games. Fittingly, all the dances and competitions were held at the Legion Auditorium on Commercial Drive where I learned to cut my dance shoes and triple steps.

Like last year, I chose to compete in the Title Jack and Jills, Inter-Regional Jack and Jills, Partnered Blues, and Solo Jazz competitions. I ended up placing first for the title j&j (admittedly my seattle dance partner did most of the work :) and placing in the finals for solo jazz. I did not have much luck in the Inter-Regional and Partnered Blues but I felt my dancing was somewhat better than last year so I did not mind too much.

Coming home from dance competitions and big exchange/congresses is always a bittersweet feeling. I am always invigorated from all the great dancing and awestruck from all the talent there is in our dance scenes. However there are always periods directly after those events of self realization that there is so much more training and work to do to get to that level. It’s awesome and scary at the same time.

    Beautiful Pictures Randy!
You add a lot of personality to your solo jazz and it really stands out. Well done this weekend!
I think everyone feels the need to step it up after a weekend like that, which is why Lindy Bout gets better every year.

Nice photos Randy! Wish I saw you compete, would’ve loved seeing you perform. It would’ve been a perfect time for me to practice Lindy too!

  3. @Meghan – Thanks for the kudos! Dance photography is a double-edged sword because that means less time actually dancing. I just need to be more time efficient :)

@Maria – how’s your dancing going in VanCity? Still doing west coast?

Sometimes it feels like there’s an endless journey ahead of you to reach a place where you can be happy with your dancing; but if you look back along the road you’ve traveled, you’re a lot farther along that path than you thought.

    Deep, huh?

@Randy – Still doing WCS, but getting my feet wet in Lindy and Blues. :D

Personally, I wished I could have gone to Lindybout. I heard it and it looks like it was phenomenal. One day I will compete there with all the dancers. That’s my goal for next year :D
